Microschool FAQs for High School Home Schoolers:

What is the American Sign Language Creator Academy (ASLCA)?

ASLCA is a specialized academy offering high-quality American Sign Language (ASL) classes primarily designed for homeschoolers.

What grade levels are these virtual home school classes suitable for?

Our virtual home school ASL classes are designed for high school students, grades 9 to 12.

When do the classes start, and how long do they run?

Classes typically start after Labor Day and run until the second week of December, totaling 14 weeks.

How often are classes held?

Classes are held twice weekly, providing 50 minutes of instructional time each session.

What is the cost of tuition for the ASLCA virtual home school class?

The fee structure is as follows:

$580 for the first child in the same household

$550 for the second child

$525 for the third child or more (all must reside in the same household).

There is a $50 dollar non-refundable registration deposit to hold your seat. 

This fee covers 1,450 minutes of instructional time, which is considered a bargain in the industry.

Are there payment options available for tuition?

Parents or Guardians can choose from various payment options, including paying in full, monthly, or halfway through installments.

Is there a registration fee?

A $75 non-refundable registration fee is required to reserve a class spot. If you choose an installment plan, enrolling in one is a $35 dollar non-refundable fee.

Is there a minimum number of students required for a class to run?

Yes, we require a minimum of six students to run a class. There is a maximum number of ten students.

What makes ASLCA different from other ASL programs?

ASLCA stands out because it's run by Deaf professionals who deeply understand ASL and Deaf culture. Our classes offer an authentic ASL learning experience that goes beyond signs to encompass the rich history and culture of the Deaf community.

How can I enroll my child in ASLCA's virtual home school class?

To enroll your child, please fill out the survey to express an interest since registration instructions will be emailed. 

What equipment or software will my child need for virtual classes?

To participate in our virtual classes, your child will need a computer, a webcam, and a stable internet connection. We'll provide further instructions for setting up the necessary software (We use Zoom).

Are the classes interactive, and will my child have opportunities to practice signing with others?

Our classes are highly interactive, and students will have ample opportunities to practice signing with their peers and our experienced instructors.

What are the benefits of learning ASL with ASLCA for homeschoolers?

Where are the classes held?

All classes are held virtually via Zoom. Therefore, each student must have access to high-speed internet and a computer with a webcam.

How many years of experience does the entire ASLCA team have?

Among our team of veteran professors, we have a combined 75 plus years of experience in teaching ASL, with some of us having state credentials to teach high school while others teach at the university level, or do both.

Will the class help my child meet his or her world language requirements?

As part of the screening and registration process, if you intend to use our class for world language credit, please consult with Professor Hurdich regarding your specific needs. Keep in mind that there may be additional charges associated with processing necessary paperwork for your state's department of education.

It's crucial to consult with your school district or homeschool cooperative to ensure that ASL can be used to satisfy world language credit requirements and to understand the proper

documentation process. We're here to guide you through this procedure.
