SLOWER PACED ASL Novice Level 1 Classes (6 weeks, once a week, 75 minutes)- This is the first ASL course you would take SYNCHOROUS with a Deaf instructor (8-12 students) via Zoom.
Course Description: This course introduces the basic American Sign Language (ASL) concepts. This level is designed for students with no or minimal sign ASL skills to develop fundamental skills in ASL use.
The instructor will also introduce students to some elementary concepts of Deaf culture.
Emphasis is on the linguistic acquisition of comprehension, production, and interactional skills using primary grammatical features.
**This course is designed for students who want to learn the basics of ASL and is intended for something other than continued studies. If you consider continuing to learn ASL by taking higher-level courses, you should enroll in the faster-paced course.**

ASL TUTORING SERVICES
We provide tutoring services to those that need assistance with tutoring concurrent with their current courses or studies (i.e., college courses, etc.)

All of our tutors are heritage/native Deaf signers and trained with credentials.
ASL INTERPRETING MENTORING/TUTORING
We provide mentoring/tutoring services to those that need assistance with tutoring concurrent with their current courses or studies (i.e., college courses, etc.) Please fill out the contact form at the top.
We do not offer one-on-one tutoring based on “teaching” ASL since classes are a better route to learning ASL by immersing in classes.
All interpreter mentors, Deaf or hearing, are nationally certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID).
The American Sign Language Virtual Club (ASLCA Virtual Club)
The ASLCA Virtual Club is an online virtual club where students can use ASL in real-time with other participants in a small group setting via Zoom with a Deaf ASL fluent facilitator. The club will meet once a week for an hour of practice. Refer to FAQs for more details.
FASTER PACED ASL Novice Level 2 Class- (6 weeks, twice a week, 75 minutes) Synchronous with a Deaf instructor (8-12 students) via Zoom
Course Description: This course is designed for students continuing from the ASL Novice Level 1 Course. It creates a visual-gestural environment that introduces ASL grammar and vocabulary with minimal exposure to English equivalents.
The instructor will provide interactive activities, cultural awareness education, and individual feedback. Emphasis is on appropriate language use in standard communication settings.
In addition, the instructor will introduce cross-cultural communication scenarios.
Prerequisite: ASL Novice Level 1 Course with the ASL Creator's Academy or the permission of the Chief ASL Academic Officer.

FASTER PACED ASL Novice Level 3 Class- (6 weeks, twice a week, 75 minutes) Synchronous with a Deaf instructor (8-12 students) via Zoom- This course is designed for ASL Novice Level 2 Course students.
Course Description: The student's grammar supports advanced nouns and verbs instruction.
Students learn to use contrastive structure and spatial referencing as part of the pronoun system. Students now use multi-sentence forms, including Topic/Comment, matching non-manual markers, fingerspelling, and related skills.
Students gain practice by interacting with the teacher and classmates and receiving feedback on their presentations. They are guided through numerous practice brief narratives to teach them to gain confidence in a comfortable learning atmosphere.
Prerequisite: ASL Novice Level 2 Course with the ASL Creator's Academy or the permission of the Chief ASL Academic Officer.
